Most of the strange things eventually turn out to not be real.

Few years back there was a rumour in Poland about potential place that hides the legendary Golden Train. A train full of stolen gold and valuables from city of Wroclaw during World War II. And there were some people claiming that they found it underground using geo-radar (quite small device which is emitting and then recording reflected electro-magnetical waves. just like normal radar, but the waves travel down to the ground). They showed some crazy images of scans to the public including the 3D model of the train with even some guns on the top of it. It looked super surreal. And it was all fake. Later a team of geophysicists from my university came with professional equipment and found that there was actually nothing there. Quite a disappointing story.

Currently at my job I am looking at different images. I use seismic waves instead of electromagnetic waves. Seismic waves can travel further down the Earth and bring information about bigger geological structures. Not sure if I have ever saw anything particularly strange. For me the coolest to look at are complicated prehistoric river systems. You can see how the river was changing it’s shape and route over thousands years. Other cool things to see are prehistoric volcanoes with multiple intrusions, which can be confused for gas deposits or salt. Or actually I did see a strange thing recently: a salt dome which looked like Darth Vader 😉
