• Question: If you Cut the moon in half what would it look like inside ?

      I didn’t know the answer to this so I Googled it 🙂

      It looks like the moon is made up of several layers, a bit like the Earth. There is a dense metal core in the centre surrounded by a fluid outer core and then outside that is the mantle and then the crust on the outside.

      I’m sure someone else can give a better explanation than me!

      I think Sarah-May has answered this well already. There’s a crust, like Earth, and a core but not everyone is sure if the inner layers are molten like Earth or if everything has cooled and solidified.

      One of the theories of how the moon formed is that a big body (like a small planet) hit the Earth and tore off some bits of Earth. Those debris then formed the moon. So the outer layers are very close to Earths’ in terms of composition but the inner layers might look more like this other planet that hit us. So the moon might be made up of two different planets all mushed together!
