Fortunately (or unfortunately if you REALLY like black holes), the sun won’t become a black hole. To become a black hole you need to have about 20 times the mass our sun has. When the fuel runs out, the star collapse so quickly that all the matter is pushed into a single point, the black hole!

Instead, our sun is gonna expand into a red giant (in 2-5 billion years). There’s a good chance the Earth will be fried when this happens! After a little while red giant phase ends leaving behind a white dwarf. These are essentially hot space diamonds. This is the most common outcome for stars in our galaxy, so studying white dwarf systems can help us understand the future of our solar system.

      Brilliant Question,
      Ry 😀
