Very important Emma. The oceans cover 70% of the earth’s surface and are much better at absorbing solar radiation that land or the atmosphere. So how our oceans store and transport this energy, (in other words heat), is really important for how our climate system works and determines our weather. Physical oceanography is the physics behind ocean circulation, waves, tides, mixing, storm surges and sea level rise.
