About Me:
Besides physics, I enjoy running and most kinds of sports, I love to travel and see the world, and I am always tempted by good food, music and any kind of challenging thing that others consider to be impossible.

My Typical Day:
Waking up, I will have breakfast and check for news from other scientists around the world (in Japan and America some of them have been working while I was sleeping 😉 ). I then turn to the list of questions that I did not understand yesterday and try hard to answer some of them. Most of the time, this involves my computer because it can do calculations much much faster than I can. However, I enjoy it most when it involves listening and talking to other scientists, either in person or online. If I get stuck, I try to have a fresh start by taking a walk for a few minutes. From time to time, together we understand things a bit better than before. Most of the time, we just find new questions — but that is exciting too. Asking the right questions can be much harder than finding answers.
In the evenings, I try to take a run or go to the gym and if I feel I have enough energy or if some unsolved problem keeps nagging me, it can happen that I continue after that. Funnily enough, some of the best progress happens in these moments right between work and leisure. At the end of the day, I take a look at my list of questions and add the new ones.

My Interview
-
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
optimistic, curious, a little crazy
What did you want to be after you left school?
either a school teacher (or a dancer :D )
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Yes, in primary school I had a hard time focusing and faked a lot of homeworks -- but it got better once I discovered my curiosity.
Who is your favourite singer or band?
if I have to choose, David Bowie
What's your favourite food?
fresh seafood
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
obviously 3 more wishes (sorry but everything else would not be honest); the peace of mind; and freedom
Tell us a joke.
It is a stupid joke but it reaveals a lot about how scientists think. A mathmatician, a scientis, and another person sit on a train in Ireland. They look out of the window and see a black sheep. The other person says: Oh look, sheep are black in Ireland. The physicist adds: Actually, we know there is at least one black sheep in Ireland. The mathmatician adds further: actually, we know there is at leas one sheep in Ireland that appears to be black from one side.
